Virechanam or Purgation Therapy

Virechanam is medicated purgation therapy that completely cleanses pitta dosha, and removes toxins from the gastro-intestinal tract, liver and gall bladder.It is a completely safe procedure without any side effects that can take , but should only be performed under the guidance of an ayurvedic physician.

Objective of Virechanam

When toxins accumulate in gastrointestinal tract, liver or gallbladder, they cause various diseases in the body. Virechan is the procedure that can very well cleanse GI tract and eliminate toxins from liver and gallbladder. It also cleanses the Pitta and purifies blood to treat various disorders.

Pre & Post Procedure

Ayurvedic physician carefully evaluates certain factors like body and mind constitution (prakruti), dosha imbalance (vikruti), age and mental condition of the patient before opting for any of the panchkarma therapies. In addition to this, the physician also prescribes definite guidelines to patients to be followed before and after the virechan procedure. These guidelines are very important to get positive effects of virechan.

Procedure of Virechanam

Virechan can be performed after vaman or directly after purva karma, without undergoing the vaman. Prior to this procedure procedure patient is given 5 to 7 days ayurvedic oil formulations to liquefy and smoothen the doshas and bring them to the intestine so that they can be eliminated through the rectum. On the day of Virechana specific drugs given to the patient, capable of induce Virechana. Virechan not only removes pitta dosha accumulated in the liver and gallbladder but, also completely cleanses the gastro-intestinal tract.
